Online Training to Support Resilience-based Management of Coral Reefs

In 2023, the Reef Resilience Network (RRN) collaborated with the Resilient Reefs Initiative (RRI), to develop an online training on resilience-based management for reef managers and conservation practitioners. RRN is a learning community hosted by The Nature Conservancy. It has been a global leader for 18 years, empowering coral reef managers and practitioners to effectively manage, protect, and restore coral reefs and marine protected areas worldwide. During this session, we will outline the key structure of the free, self-paced online training, and provide our definition of resilience-based management (RBM) along with its three dimensions, ecological, social, and governance. We will highlight successes and challenges in applying the RBM process at various RRI and UNESCO reef sites, including Belize, Western Australia, and New Caledonia. Additionally, we will discuss key themes and address the most common questions raised by participants who have completed the course and attended different training sessions. We will also explore the next steps for tackling these questions and helping managers implement RBM.
