Описание к видео Social & Economic Opportunities/Challenges of Alternative Meat for Rural Producers in the U.S.

The potential environmental impacts of plant-based and cultured meat have been well explored but the social and economic impacts of alternative meats have received less attention, particularly as they relate to rural communities. To investigate how rural producers may be affected by the alternative meat industry, Dr. Peter Newton and his colleague from the Breakthrough Institute conducted semi-structured interviews with 37 expert informants, including representatives of cultured meat companies, plant-based meat companies, non-profit organizations, funding agencies, governmental agencies, and the beef, soy, and pea sectors, as well as researchers and farmers. His research identifies numerous white spaces, to which natural and social scientists could usefully apply their attention.

Dr. Newton is currently an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Studies Program at CU Boulder, where he has been teaching classes on food systems and the environment since 2015.
