Word and Art with Bishop Dolan - The Calling of Saints Peter and Andrew

Описание к видео Word and Art with Bishop Dolan - The Calling of Saints Peter and Andrew

On this 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time, Bishop John Dolan reflects on “The Calling of Saints Peter and Andrew,” a painting by the baroque artist, Caravaggio, in this week’s episode of Word and Art, in which he connects a Sunday reading with a famous work of art.

As he reflects on this painting depicting Jesus' beckoning of Peter and his brother, Andrew, from their fishing occupation, Bishop John ponders the life of Peter. Peter who both had the bold faith to walk on the water, and sank; who denied Jesus three times, and again professed his love; who often got it wrong, and yet in today’s Gospel expresses the truest reality, “Master... You have the words of eternal life.” As we ponder this painting, we find encouragement that in our own humanity, Christ beckons us, too.

Bishop John brings an exciting and insightful perspective to the series as he earned a Master of Arts degree in Liturgy/Church Art and Architecture from St. Patrick’s Seminary and University in Menlo Park, Calif.
