The Top 3 Tips for Maximising Marks in A-level Chemistry Exams

a. Don’t leave any spaces blank
i. If you aren’t sure of an answer do not leave the space blank!
ii. But a star next to the question/mark the question and move on
iii. When you have finished your paper review all the marked questions you were unsure of
iv. You may remember something you had previously forgotten!
v. If you are still unsure, don’t panic! Make an educated guess, because only a blank space can guarantee you no marks
b. Read the Question thoroughly
i. It is hugely important to read the entire question
ii. Ensure you know which reactants are being used, the units they have and how you are meant to answer the question
iii. If the question asks for 2dp make sure you abide to this
iv. Underline they key parts of the question if this helps
c. Include all your working out
i. When doing calculations it is hugely important to include every step of working out
ii. The examiner can credit you for using the right calculations even if your numbers are wrong
iii. If anything goes wrong in your calculations, you may also be able to get marks for error carried forward
