Australian Immigration Update: Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List PMSOL

Last Tuesday, the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs Alex Hawke MP announced that 22 new skilled occupations have been added to the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL). The list is now comprised of 41 critical occupations.

The 22 newly added occupations are:
1. Accountant (General) (221111)
2. Accountant (Taxation) (221113)
3. Accountant (Management) (221112)
4. External Auditor (221213)
5. Internal Auditor (221214)
6. Electrical Engineer (233311)
7. Civil Engineer (233211)
8. Structural Engineer (233214)
9. Geotechnical Engineer (233212)
10. Transport Engineer (233215)
11. Mining Engineer (233611)
12. Petroleum Engineer (233612)
13. Surveyor (232212)
14. Cartographer (232213)
15. Other Spatial Scientist (232214)
16. Medical Laboratory Scientist (234611)
17. Orthotist / Prosthetist (251912)
18. Multimedia Specialist (261211)
19. Analyst Programmer (261311)
20. Software and Applications Programmers (261399)
21. ICT Security Specialist (262112)
22. Chef (351311)

Introduced in September 2020, the PMSOL ensures that the critical occupations are filled to continue creating Australian jobs and aid in Australia's ongoing recovery from COVID-19. Occupations on this list will be prioritized. Visa holders, who have been sponsored by an Australian business in a PMSOL occupation will be subject to quarantine arrangements at their own expense.

The PMSOL is temporary and priority occupations may change as Australia recovers from the pandemic. The Government and the ​National Skills Commission will continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on the Australian labour market and assess Australia’s skills needs as they evolve and new sources of data emerge.
