Starting next month, the Department of Education says it will start collecting on student loans that are in default.

The Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) will resume collections of its defaulted federal student loan portfolio on Monday, May 5th.

This is a big change for many, as DoEd says it hasn't collected on defaulted loans since 2020.

In a release, DoEd says more than 5 million borrowers are in default on their student loans.
