NZMM - Day 8 - Radio Rodeo by The Coalrangers

Given that I played in a kick-a$$ country band for awhile (Clark Reid and the Country Super Band), I have a huge love for country music (and a whole heap of no love for most DJ music) and I have loved this song from the first time I played it.

The Tui Award winning Coalrangers are a mix of East Coast and West Coast musicians and they are a combination country, blues, roots band which means they have a little something for everyone. I believe this track was penned by Geoff Farmar. Apologies to Geoff - I couldn't find the correct words to last line of the second verse - so I guessed at them.

New Zealand Music Month is celebrated during May every year and this year I decided to challenge myself to play and record a short song every day from a NZ artist.

I have recorded all the tracks you hear but I have pre-recorded most of the acoustic guitar parts (and any vocal harmonies you may hear).

However my rule was that I only did things in one take (playing from beginning to end with no overdubs or touch ups). The idea is that it should sound like a live gig (mistakes included).

The voice and the bass are done live during the recording.

I don't have any professional recording or video experience (which shows :) ) but it's more about the challenge and the fun of doing it.
