For further reading:
Anthony Beevor's book "The Spanish Civil War" is excellent.

For personal accounts, I read George Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia" and Peter Kemp's "Mine Were of Trouble". Both volunteered to fight in Spain, but for different sides.

An excellent account of the rise to power of Hitler, Mussolini and Franco is provided by Stephen Graham's "Faces of Fascism" which I got for Christmas.

For an adventure story, Dennis Wheatley's "The Golden Spaniard" is where I first learned about the Civil War.
