In this video I test my alternator to see if it can supply a sufficient amount of current with a number of devices turned on. This is the most basic way to load test an alternator and is fairly accurate in determining whether or not it is "good enough" My test results are good. Great actually, comparing to others.

I was also using the window motors during the test, and the voltage would drop. But this is not part of the load test. You can tell when I use them because it drops down for a second then goes back up to a correct reading.

I performed this test because my battery wasn't charged enough to start my car one morning after only 2 days of sitting. I'm now looking more for a parasitic load. This means something in my car is pulling an excessive amount of current while my car is sitting. Naturally all cars pull a little bit of current while the car is off because of the anti theft systems(alarm), the clock on the radio, etc. 50 milliamps is acceptable. I will perform this test eventually. Not sure if it should go on Youtube or not.

I have performed a real load test where you use a variable carbon block to vary a load to measure the max amperage the alternator can put out while maintaining a system voltage of 12.6 volts.
