The one planet summit for the ocean 9, 10, 11 February 2022 Brest, Brittany - France
A summit to take action against the threats to the ocean.
The ocean covers more than 70% of the surface of our planet, yet too often remains on the sidelines of major European and international events.
With 70.8% of the planet, the marine realm is the largest component of the Earth system that stabilizes climate and sustains life on Earth. However, the ocean is now seriously degraded, with changes and losses in the structure, function, and benefits of marine systems. What will happen in 2050, when the earth’s population exceeds 9 billion?
BLUE HOTSPOT is an original proposal in which a trio of speakers address the extreme topicalities of the ocean: they alert us to the most biologically important, least protected, and most critically threatened ecosystems in the ocean world that are at risk. They call on us to get involved and propose solutions, open perspectives... Echoing the workshops and forums of the One Ocean Summit, these short 20-minute conversations aim toinspire and engage participants to strengthen marine conservation and create new cooperation around the Ocean.
