Hand-rearing the Red-billed Chough chicks at Wildwood Trust

With feeds every two hours, hand-rearing these little chicks takes incredible dedication, planning and patience!

Best practice rearing techniques have been developed over many years working with the choughs to ensure the best chance of successfully rearing these chicks. Note, when the chick’s eyes are open, our Chough Release Supervisor Liz Corry wears black gloves and feeds the chicks with a red tweezer in order to simulate parental feeding.

The project partnership between @wildwoodtrustuk @kentwildlife and @paradiseparkcornwall aims to release small family-sized groups each year for a minimum of five years in order to establish a breeding population of approximately 50 birds.

The 2024 chicks will eventually join the Red-billed Choughs released successfully last year, which are already soaring across the Dover skies.
