Hunstanton is a popular seaside town located between Kings Lynn and Wells Next The Sea on the Norfolk coast. Come with me as we explore Hunstanton from the Town Centre down to the seafront and beach to see why people love to visit this lovely place!

Hunstanton is known for its unique west-facing position on the Wash, making it one of the few places on the east coast of England where you can watch the sunset over the sea. The town is effectively split into two distinct areas: Old Hunstanton and New Hunstanton. Old Hunstanton retains a quieter, more traditional village feel with picturesque thatched cottages and a historic parish church. New Hunstanton, developed in the Victorian era, is the bustling resort town with a classic British seaside atmosphere, complete with a promenade, amusement arcades, a theatre, and a wide sandy beach.

The town's most striking natural feature is its famous striped cliffs, which run south from Old Hunstanton. These cliffs are a geological marvel, displaying three distinct layers of rock. The base is an orange-red carstone, followed by a layer of red chalk, and topped with white chalk. These layers were deposited over millions of years during the Cretaceous period and are a magnet for geologists and fossil hunters. The cliffs and the surrounding coastline are also a popular starting point for walkers, as Hunstanton marks the beginning of the Norfolk Coast Path, a scenic walking route that follows the coast to Cromer.

The development of Hunstanton as a seaside resort began in 1846, spearheaded by the local landowner Henry Styleman le Strange, who had a vision to create a resort town to rival Brighton. He moved a medieval cross to the new site and funded a railway line, which brought an influx of visitors. The town's architecture, particularly the use of local carrstone, reflects this Victorian heritage. While the famous Victorian pier was destroyed by a storm in 1978, its legacy lives on in the town's entertainment offerings, which still include a funfair and other classic seaside attractions that draw families and tourists to this charming coastal town, affectionately known as "Sunny Hunny."
