Vijayan Newston: The Rajasthani Association Tamilnadu hosted the second edition of the Rajasthani-Tamil Seva Awards on February 8, 2026, at the Taj Connemara, Chennai. Established to celebrate the historical and cultural bond between the Rajasthani and Tamil communities—a relationship spanning over 180 years—the awards recognize individuals and institutions dedicated to selfless service in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The event featured Justice R. Mahadevan of the Supreme Court of India as Chief Guest, who praised the association’s commitment to honoring "sons of the soil" and emphasized the importance of rural progress and resource conservation.

The selection process was overseen by a high-profile jury, including Shri S. Gurumurthy and Shri N. Ravi, who screened over 200 nominations to ensure integrity and sustained social impact. For 2026, five awardees were selected, each receiving a citation, a medal, and a cash prize of Rs. 2 Lakhs. This year’s recipients included academic leader Dr. Sudha Seshayyan, devotional music custodian Shri B. Sargurunathan, human rights advocate Mr. K. R. Raja, the Payir Trust for its rural transformation models, and the Public Health Centre, West Mambalam, for its seven-decade legacy of affordable healthcare.

Reflecting on the community’s integration, Association President Shri Narendra Srisrimal highlighted the Tamil ideal of “Yadhum Oore Yavarum Kelir” (To us, all towns are one, all men our kin), noting that the community’s growth is inseparable from that of the state. By institutionalizing these awards, the Association continues to bridge the gap between grassroots excellence and formal recognition, fostering a legacy of philanthropy and mutual respect that has defined the Rajasthani presence in Tamil Nadu since the association's founding in 1967.
