The Sony STR-V7 is the flagship receiver of its time. It weighs just under 50 pounds, that is the first way to check for quality and it passes that test. You could have gone with the STR-V1, STR-V2, STR-V3, STR-V4, STR-V5, STR-V6 or the V7. The STR-V7 was much more powerful than and of the lower series with a whopping 150 Watts Per Channel. There wasn't a better amplifier available in this lineup. A rare and necessary feature that you will find on the rear panel is the MM/MC switch. This is useful for when listening to records on your turntable. The selector offers the options of moving magnetic or moving coil. A moving coil-type cartridge is more precise than the moving magnetic type cartridge. On the front panel, you will see 3 meters. The first 2 are the watts per channel. It goes up to 200 watts, but I wouldn't max it out. Sony sold it as a 150 watt amp. The third meter is how strong of a signal you you have coming through from the antenna. Next to that you have 2 knobs, and a button. The first knob is the volume knob. The button is for controlling the meter. You can depress the button to turn on the meter, the light above it will then turn red. The knob to the right controls the tuning for AM/FM radio. The display for that is just below that and extends across the entire device for quick, easy and smooth tuning. It has a couple other knobs and switches, a notable setting is the Phono 1 and Phono 2 function. If you want to have 2 different record players in your system, that will be very useful. The pictures you see of the item match the condition of the item. You do have the option to pay extra and have the sides completely refinished to look like new. The most important part is that it works like new and the inside has been serviced and Spencertified. The Sony Silver Face STR-V7 amplifier is the crème de la crème and is usually unavailable for purchase, so get it while it is still available
