This section involves delivering approximately 217km of track – 149km of new track and 68km of upgraded track – which runs from 18km southeast of Goondiwindi to Gowrie Junction, northwest of Toowoomba in Queensland. It is one of 12 sections that make up the 1,600km Inland Rail fast freight railway being constructed to link Melbourne and Brisbane via an inland route.

The Inland Rail NSW/Qld Border to Gowrie revised draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is now on public consultation. The Queensland Coordinator-General is inviting submissions on the revised draft EIS between Monday 12 May and Monday 7 July 2025. The revised draft EIS will be available online at the Coordinator-General’s website at www.statedevelopment.qld.gov.au/inlandrail-b2g
