Côté cour / côté jardin" - commissioned to the artist Eva Jospin by the Festival Aperto and the Reggio Parma Festival - is a work with an evocative title. In the language of theatre, in fact, looking at the stage from the hall, the courtyard is the right side, the garden is the left side. The artist has imagined a sort of static scenic device that, placed in the centre of the space, creates a centripetal movement and offers different points of view depending on how the audience moves.

This documentary by Piergiorgio Casotti recounts the main stages leading up to the inauguration of the work on 8 October 2021 in the Sala Ottagonale of the Teatro Municipale Valli in Reggio Emilia.

"Côté cour / côté jardin" is a work in constant dialectic between opposites and complementaries, at different levels of interpretation. On the one hand, the geometric rationality of the Renaissance perspective depicting the colonnaded palace with a central vanishing point and a game of trompe l'oeil recalling Palladio's Olympic theatre or Borromini's fake perspective in Palazzo Spada; on the other hand, the emotionality of a forest where anything can happen. But although Eva Jospin's work analyses a scenic device and questions the theatre itself, it remains a work of art in the round because it is designed to be contemplated.

Around the work, mk Michele Di Stefano has created the site specific "Eden # uno stato eternamente nascente", on 12, 13 and 14 November 2021 during the Festival Aperto in Reggio Emilia.
