Hi, I'm Bruce with etrailer. Today we're gonna be talking about our Reese cargo carrier on our 2024 Toyota RAV4. Now you may be asking why you need a cargo carrier. One, it's gonna save space inside your vehicle, or if you're hauling a lawnmower, you don't want the lawnmower in the vehicle with grass clippings or gas fumes, so you can carry it on the outside. Now if you notice, we do have plenty of room in our RAV4, but say we want to go on a camping trip, and we wanna load this down with coolers. We don't want a bunch of coolers in here 'cause we want our other camping gear or our clothes in here.

So this is a great option, and you do have a 24 across by 60 space to store all that. With that being said, the cargo carrier is the maximum of 500 pounds capacity. But keep in mind that your hitch and your tongue weight that your vehicle could handle, just check your owner's manual. Now let's go ahead and take a measurement and see how high we can actually stack things here before the tailgate comes into play. Right there.

So we're able to go ahead and stack our cargo about 19 inches, which is plenty of room, but I just recommend keeping it about that height. If you go any higher, you're gonna be blocking your license plate and potentially your taillights and window. Now let's talk about how our cargo will interact with the back of our vehicle. Now on our RAV4, we do have rear exhaust on both sides. So if you have any heat sensitive items, I would recommend putting those towards the middle.

That way, you won't get any exhaust heat from that. Now if your vehicle is a side exhaust, you should not have to worry about that. Now let's talk about ground clearance for a minute. I'm gonna go ahead and measure that. So from the ground to the bottom of our cargo carrier, it's about 12 inches.

Now if you put a little weight in here, the car is gonna sag a little bit, and you'll lose a few inches. But if you come around to this part here, our shank is curved up, which allows us to have more clearance on the ground versus a straight shank. To avoid any bumps or steep grades, you should be fine. The other thing I wanna talk about is how far away from the vehicle the actual cargo carrier is from the bumper. And we're gonna go right from the bumper to the edge of the cargo carrier, and you looking at just under 34 inches. So just keep that in mind when you're in a parking lot and making turns, that will swing out a little wider. Just be aware of that. Now let's go ahead and measure and see how much room we have between the back of the vehicle and the front of the cargo carrier. And we have roughly eight inches, which will give you plenty of room to tie down any of your gear around the steel tubing. This is all made out of steel, so you can have tie points anywhere along this to strap your gear down. Now this cargo carrier does have a black powder coat finish. The other thing I do really like about this is the mesh flooring it has. So it's all open. If you've got any leaking coolers, muddy shoes, muddy gear from your camping trip, it rained on you, your tent's wet, you can throw all that on here, and it will just seep through. It's an easy cleanup if any mud is on here. All you gotta do is take a hose, spray it off. Now this does have a two inch shank, which goes into our two by two receiver tube. And the only thing you're gonna need is a hitch pin to attach it to your receiver tube. This is our hitch pin here. We do carry these at etrailer. We also have an anti-rattle bolt that you can use to keep the rack from doing this number. I really think this cargo carrier is a great option for your RAV4 if you're looking to get more space. Now the only downside I really see is once you do get to your destination and you do unload the cargo carrier, you are still sticking way out unless you can take it off and set it somewhere. Now there is another option. It's the etrailer cargo carrier that does fold up. That's a look at our Reese cargo carrier on our 2024 Toyota RAV4. I'm Bruce, thanks for watching.
