Bush Fire Ingleburn 29/10/23
Fire & Rescue NSW and NSW RFS crews responded to reports of a Bush Fire in the reserve near Wilkinson Crescent at Ingleburn.
Crews arrived to find a fast moving fire travelling through bush and grassland, threatening houses in Wilkinson Crescent which were successfully defended by firefighters. Further crews responded to the south of the fire, working from Victoria Road Minto to protect the sports club and power station.
As the fire continued to gain strength and escalate, the fire jumped the South West rail line into open grasslands and began to speed rapidly towards houses in Bow Bowing. Firefighters managed to defend and save Hattah Way & Carnarvon Street Bow Bowing, with pumpers defending the houses whilst tankers chased the fire through the grasslands.
The fire then made a hard run up the large hill towards the Odyssey House complex, with the fire crowning through scrub and flame height reaching in excess of 10 metres as the fire burnt up the hill. Firefighters managed to successfully save Odyssey House with no damage to the complex.
The fire continued to burn to the west, threatening houses along Warrumbungle Place, Bow Bowing. Firefighters worked from the powerline easement along with a water bombing helicopter to successfully protect the properties as the fire continued towards Campbelltown Road.
As the fire approached Campbelltown Road, the road was closed and crews positioned themselves to hold the fire, including laying a foam blanket along the road edge. As the fire approached, crews from the north and south were able to pinch the fire off, successfully stopping it from crossing Campbelltown Road.
The fire consumed a total of 45 hectares of bush and grass, which firefighters spent the next 7 hours working to completely extinguish. The fire is now completely under control and crews are continuing to patrol the fire and extinguish hotspots into the night.
