In this video, Dr. Priyanka Singh, a retinal consultant at Shekar Eye Hospital in Bangalore, talks about Vitreous Hemorrhage.

Vitreous Hemorrhage refers to bleeding in the gel-like substance called vitreous, which fills the back of the eye between the lens and the retina. This is a serious condition that can cause vision loss and requires immediate medical attention.

Vitreous hemorrhage is more commonly observed in older adults. The most common causes include proliferative vascular retinopathy, diabetic retinopathy, occlusion of some blood vessels, and breakthrough hemorrhages. The less common causes include sickle cell retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, ocular trauma, penetrative injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage, etc.

Symptoms include cobwebs, haze, shadows, or floaters, and loss of vision. The patient has to undergo scans or ultrasonography to diagnose and understand if there is any underlying retinal detachment or not. Treatment options depend on the underlying cause and severity of the condition. In some cases, the bleeding may clear up on its own, while in others, surgical intervention may be necessary.
