It’s that time of the year and I couldn’t resist this tiny poinsettia at the garden center. So after having success with the Anthurium, I figured I would try to create a self-watering pot for my new poinsettia as well.

🌱I started by removing the plant from the pot so that I could create a new rootball that would allow the plant to fit in it’s new home.

🔴I then took some colored glass beads and mixed two colors together, that would serve as the foundation for the water reservoir.

😊Then I cut a small rope that would serve as a wick and help to water the plant when I create the self watering pot. I placed the rope in my vase and placed the beads around the rope leaving a piece towards the top sticking out.

🪴Then I took a small piece of screen mesh and cut it the diameter of the vase. Made a small incision in the middle of the mesh so that the rope could go through it and be close to the actual plant.

💦I then cut a piece of tubing that I would keep towards the back of the vase to help me water the plant without wetting the soil and getting the water near the beads murky.

🪴Finally I put the plant in the vase and continued to backfill with a mixture of 50% coir and 50% pine bark.
