Saiva-siddhanta is the name by which the school of Southern Saivism is known. Its primary sources are in Tamil – the devotional outpourings of the saints and the systematic writings of the teachers. The basic authority for all these works is said to be that of the Saiva Agamas which are all in Sanskrit. The Vedas too are authoritative for the Saiva-siddhantin. Only their appeal is general, while that of the Agamas is special.
