Smokey & The Bandit Tribute Truck Ep.45 Back in Black’ish

On this episode I continue with the ongoing restoration of this 1979 Kenworth W900A truck to turn it into a tribute movie truck to the one used in the 1977 classic movie Smokey and the Bandit with Burt Reynolds, Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason. If you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for??? “There’s no way that you can come from my loins…”

Picking up from last week’s cliffhanger, I start laying down the Nason Night Shadow Brown single stage paint. Spraying was going very well and the high-end spray gun I bought was working beautifully. However, right away it was oblivious that my hillbilly paint booth was not airtight, and dust and tree fluff was showing up. No big deal as we can buff that out later. Eventually, I got 2 nice coats laid down and I have to say it looks pretty decent. Once I let it rest for a while, I decided to take the booth down and let some natural light in. All in all it turned out pretty good considering I’ve never painted before and I had a lot of headwinds (inexperience, home-made booth, inadequate lighting, dark paint, etc). I’m sure the professionals out there will be happy to point out the flaws, but overall, I’m happy I gave it a try
