The defintion of lukewarm is being conceited. Someone who esteems themself to be better than others. Someone who defines themselves as rich is saying that they are superior to others and they want them to know that. Jesus cousels the Laodicean to buy gold tried in the fire. This gold represents the love of God that esteems others better than oneself. That's rich in God's eyes. The spewing out is a rebuke. The bible says so in verse 19 'As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. It is a rejection of the words and attitude that the Laodicean has formed of himself.
Too many have been persuaded that the spewing out is a rejection of salvation. It is not! No! It's a rebuke and if you fail to repent verse 21 tells you that those that overcome will be granted to sit with Jesus on His throne, even as He overcame and sat down with His Father on His throne. To fail is not a loss of salvation, but a loss of possible rewards.
