In the 70's the Thames barrier desigers never knew just how much and how fast the climate would change. The barrier was only supposed to last until 2030, yet the effect of climate change will have a greater and greater impact after this date.

This is a simulation created in Google Earth, showing what could happen by 2050 as sea levels rise. I created it in 360 because I felt it better conveyed the sense of how widespread and utter the devastation could be and as such it raises several important questions.

Will the barrier be enough to prevent this?

Should Londoners put their faith in an increasingly aging structure that was never intended to deal with the predicted conditions?

Can London afford to replace it, or can it NOT afford to replace it?

Considering it will cost billion's of pounds to replace who should pay, London or the UK as a whole?

The UK is a small island nation, for the money how many of the UK's other coastal towns and cities will be abandoned to their fate?

London at least has it's iconic barrier, in follow up videos I'll look at New York and Tokyo are they prepared, how bad could flooding be for them?
