How To Mentally Accept an Ostomy

For me one of the biggest struggles I faced when I got my ileostomy was the mental aspect.

I struggled to accept that this was my new life. I felt like my body was deformed and I hated it.

I never thought I would get to a place of acceptance. It has taken me some time but I have finally come to accept my ileostomy.

I still have my rough days and days where I wish I could have my old body back.

In the beginning, I tried to focus on the areas where my ileostomy was helping me. I tried to find the good in the bad. I also tried to find ways to dress that made me feel good about myself.

It was a tough battle and still is some days. No one wants to poop into a bag. It does get easier with time.
