A tragic case of negligence in Delhi’s Janakpuri has led to the arrest of sub-contractor Rajesh Kumar Prajapati and the detention of laborer Yogesh after 30-year-old Kamal Dhyani died from falling into an open Delhi Jal Board pit. Despite being alerted to the accident by a witness at midnight on February 5th, the accused allegedly inspected the site, saw Kamal and his motorcycle in the hole, but failed to call for help or notify authorities, eventually leaving the scene as the victim’s family searched in vain throughout the night. It was only eight hours later that a local woman alerted the police, but by then it was too late; Kamal was declared brought dead, sparking a police investigation under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) into the lack of safety barricades and the deliberate misleading of the rescue efforts.
