Back in the 90s, HM’s net worth was ₹3,542 crore.
Scam bust → banks froze his accounts, shares worth ₹453 cr got seized, and even his flashy Mumbai penthouse was auctioned off.

Final price?
₹32.6 cr to stockbroker Ashok Samani.
Fun fact: Harshad’s mom even placed a higher bid (₹33 cr!) but was rejected ’cause all her assets were already seized.

His blue-chip holdings (ACC, Apollo Tyres, Hero Honda) were under proxy names.
Once the scam blew up, those proxies sold the shares and vanished — custodian could never recover them.

In total, around ₹4,000 cr was clawed back.
But most of it went straight to Income Tax (₹3,200 cr) and SBI (₹800 cr). Other banks got partial crumbs.

And here’s the kicker — 32 years later, the case is STILL pending in the Supreme Court.
