This educational seminar will provide the learner with a thorough introduction to the role of applied neuroscience, or functional neurology, in addiction recovery. Mounting scientific evidence demonstrates that impairments in learning, behavior, and neurological function underlie or co-occur with addiction and substance use disorders. The neurophysiological, cognitive, and metabolic mechanisms of brain health and dysfunction as related to addiction will be discussed in detail; as well as accepted methods of assessment in these key areas. Clinical applications for diet, exercise, stress management, brain training, and more will be explored. This cross-disciplinary seminar is for providers looking to elevate their current understanding of the brain’s role in addiction; and what can be improved to facilitate addiction recovery.
