The bizarre moment that Charles Bothuell IV was informed on live TV that his son who had been missing for 11 days had been found in his basement.

Following a police investigation, it was revealed that the 12-year-old boy had never been lost; he had simply been hiding from his father and stepmother.

Since the FBI had already inspected the basement, it's presumed that the boy must have relocated there at a later time.

Upon being found, Charles Bothuell V confessed that he had hidden in the basement out of fear of his father's reaction upon discovering he hadn't exercised as expected.

On January 19, 2016, Bothuell IV pleaded guilty to fourth-degree child abuse, leading to the removal of second-degree child abuse charges as part of the agreement.

Prosecutors disclosed that Bothuell V was notably underweight and bore signs of abuse on his body when he was discovered following the reported disappearance.

Bothuell IV also admitted to beating his son with a PVC pipe.

He was sentenced to 18 months of probation and mandatory anger management classes. He also lost custody of his son, and was ordered to have no further contact with him.
