Performance Test:

In my opinion, if you like less magnification & bright, sharp image, NIKON 12X50 is the best choice.
PENTAX 16X50 offers great magnification but which cost less bright Image as compared to 12X50 (though its law of optics).

PENTAX SP 16x50:

Pros: High Magnification offers more details of the subjects.
Robust Aluminium body
Descent exit pupil.
Easy to focus
Cons:
chromatic aberration on the edges.
images are not razor sharp
Need tripod to get steady image.

NIKON 12x50:
Pros: High Magnification.
Robust Aluminium body
Good exit pupil.
Easy to focus
Can be handheld
Razor sharp Image
Cons: I have'nt find any

Which One Should You Choose?:

In my opinion, both are great Binoculars, weighs almost same, you can choose either of them as per your need for magnification.
