‪#‎TravelTuesday‬ - With more than 6 million - yes, MILLON - people descending on Munich, Germany for 16 days of spectacular madness, Oktoberfest is unquestionably the largest beer festival in the world, held annually from late September to the first weekend of October.

With absolutely zero understanding of what we were in for, Brian and I arrived at Oktoberfest and stood at the festival entrance in jaw dropping silence - it's a gigantic 104 acres of beer tents, food vendors, souvenir stands and carnival rides - like the Sonoma County Fair x 1,000,000! We slowly made our way up the midway and randomly qued-up at the Augustiner-Festhalle for a quick bite and a beer. The line was hardly moving but this was the only afternoon we had free on our German adventure and I was determined to get into that tent! Besides, there we only 20 people in front of us so how long could it take?

3.5 hours later, and unprecedented patience on my part, we neared the door and to our surprise we could hear thousands of gruff, manly voices hearlding the melodies of ABBA! We stepped inside to find 5000+ local drunken, lederhosen clad gays, literally standing on tables, swaying arm and arm, shouting to the heavens everything from German folks songs, ABBA (Mamma Mia), Elvis (Viva Las Vegas) and John Denver (Really? John Denver?! (Take Me Home Country Roads) - all accompanied by the traditional German oompah-band! In sensory overload and udder giddyness we marched our own lederhosen clad butts into the chaos and found ourselves invited to join a table of handsome, drunken men - which we couldn't possibly refuse. Thank you Andrea Piras, Peter Hobauer and Martin Wladkowski for showing us the time of our lives!

Towards the end of our 8 hour "quick bite and a beer" we were treated to a surprise performance by Eurovision 2014 winner, Austrian pop artist and drag entertainer, Conchita Wurst!

Now that we know what we're in for and how LGBT friendly it is, I'm thinking Oktoberfest Reboot 2016.
