Satellite is an object that revolves around the earth. There are large number of other satellites as well which orbit around the earth in fixed orbit. These satellites are made by man and are called artificial satellites. These are placed intentionally for different purposes such as scientific research, space exploration.
Today we find thousands of artificial satellites around the earth. Satellite obtain energy from sun. There are large, solar photovoltaic panels fitted with the satellites, which capture solar radiations and convert them into electricity.
Satellites are carried to the space with the help of a special kind of vehicle, we call it a satellite launch vehicle.
Depending on the functions they perform the artificial satellites are classified into different categories.
Weather Satellites which are used to study the weather and make predictions about future weather based on collected information. E.g. INSAT i.e. Indian National Satellite and GSAT i.e. Geosynchronous Satellite. These are launched into the space using GSLV i.e. Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle.
Communication Satellites: which are used to establish communication between different parts of the world. E.g. INSAT and GSAT and are launched by GSLV. EDUSAT satellite used for education.
