One Earth | What is Regenerative Agriculture?

Regenerative agriculture describes farming, ranching, and pastoral practices which help to stabilize our climate by restoring microbial activity in the soil, producing food and fiber in a way that is: just equitable and humane. Regenerative agriculture gives back as much to the Earth as it takes. The term was coined by the Rodale Institute in the early 1980s, but its roots are found in traditional and Indigenous knowledge, working with nature, not against it. Regenerative farmers focus on the health of the land, thereby increasing carbon storage, conserving water, and protecting biodiversity. Regenerative agriculture is also great for the economy! A recent study found regenerative farms were 78% more profitable than conventional plots. Regenerative agriculture is good for the health of people and the planet.
