TLDW:
Puzzle books contain hand-selected puzzles based on instructive value, often chosen by a strong player/coach.

Online trainers:
- Solutions tend to be computerized
- Puzzles end before the full solution is played out
- The critical/principled/logical defense is not given in favor of the "computer" defense, which is often less instructive
