After hearing the plea of ‘Padmaavat’ producers, the Supreme Court on Thursday struck down the ban imposed by four BJP-governed states, allowing an all India release to the film.
A bench of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud observed that the film was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A certificate for an all-Indian screening after keeping in mind the provisions of the Cinematograph Act, which prohibits scenes that denigrate women.
The makers of Padmavat had moved the top court against the decision taken by four BJP states namely Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
‘Padmaavat’ is all set to release on 25 January.
