Walking through Kamikochi with breathtaking views that will leave you speechless

Kamikochi is said to be one of Japan's most scenic mountain destinations.
The mountains, rivers, vegetation, and everything is beautiful, of natural beauty.
It's easy to see why many people, both Japanese and foreigners alike, visit this place in search of relaxation.
This time, we'll walk about 8km from Taisho Pond to a guesthouse near Myojin Pond.
Surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery, hiking while listening to the murmuring of the clear Azusa River and the chirping of birds is very soothing to the soul.

Taisho Pond
When you get off at the Taisho Pond bus stop, you will come across the Taisho Pond Hotel, which is the starting point of this course. If you go around to the back of the hotel, you will see the view of Taisho Pond.
On June 6, 1915, Mt. Yakedake erupted, causing a mudflow that blocked the Azusa River,
and suddenly,
Taisho Pond was born.
The submerged forest became a fantastical dead tree, creating a mysterious landscape.

Tashiro Marshland
As you walk from Taisho Pond, the view suddenly opens up and the Tashiro Marshland appears. The highlight is the view of the Hotaka mountain range seen over the marshland, which can only be seen here.
The Tashiro Marshland is also beautiful throughout the four seasons, and in summer the ginkgo lilies, the surrounding day lilies, and the cowberries create a beautiful landscape that resembles a miniature garden.

Weston Monument
A relief of a human face is embedded into the cliff. It is a relief of Walter Weston, the British missionary and mountaineer who introduced Kamikochi to the world.
As it is just a relief embedded into the cliff, you need to be careful not to pass it by without noticing.

Kappa Bridge
Kappa Bridge is a symbol of Kamikochi. Its appearance blends in with nature and is an indispensable presence in Kamikochi.
The view from here is wonderful, and it is a great vantage point from which you can see the Hotaka mountain range, Dakezawa, the clear flow of the Azusa River, and looking back, the rugged Mount Yakedake.
The current Kappa Bridge is in its fifth generation, and there are various theories about the origin of its name, including "long ago, kappas lived here" and "in the days before bridges, people who crossed the river with clothes on their heads looked like kappas."

Dakezawa Marshland
The blue sky and clear water create a spectacular beauty.
The otherworldly beauty will make you feel as if you've wandered into another world.

Hotaka Shrine
Hotaka Shrine is famous and popular as a mystical power spot.

Myojin Pond
At the back of the Okumiya Shrine, in an area known as the sacred area, is Myojin Pond. Once a year, a boat is floated on the pond and a Mifune Shinto ritual is held here.
Myojin Pond, with its mystical atmosphere, is also known as a power spot. The gourd-shaped pond has a unique mystical atmosphere.
In addition, Myojin Pond is a spring-fed pond, so it boasts unparalleled transparency.

Kamikochi Bus Terminal
Kamikochi Bus Terminal is the gateway to sightseeing in Kamikochi and hiking in the Northern Alps. To access Kamikochi, where private cars are restricted to protect the natural environment, you can transfer to a shuttle bus or taxi (from Sawando Bus Terminal on the Nagano side or Hirayu Bus Terminal on the Gifu side). As a result, many people, from tourists to hikers, use the bus terminal.
(This time, I got off at the Taishoike bus stop in the morning.)
Inside the terminal, there is a place to leave your luggage and a post office, where you can send a letter to commemorate your visit to Kamikochi.
