This is my Observation Hive and how I set it up.
I used my own survivor line honey bees to stock the observation hive, but bought a queen in from the weaver family in Texas.
Varroa resistant and hygienic which are perfect for my observation hive studies.
There are many reasons to have an observation hive, aside from being able to look in on the bees whenever you feel like it. Are you one of those keepers who opens your hives every few days because you just have to know what's going on in there?
The observation hive setup is definitely for you, watch them bring in pollen, observe the queen laying eggs, watch workers hatch daily, the learning opportunities go on and on.

Below are links to the products that are shown in this video.

The observation hive in this video is called the "Swing-View" Here is the link where I purchased it:

The Food Grade Plastic "heavy wax dipped" frames I currently use are from Acorn and here is their link:

I have been using varroa resistant hygienic bees from Weavers for over 10 years. I get no discount and no compensation for sharing their link:

Custom Cut Plexi-Glass Sheet 0.250" thick. Other thicknesses available:

If you want to check for varroa, I suggest using drone frames from Acorn, once the drone brood is capped, remove the entire frame and pull the larvae for a parasite inspection. Here is a link for those who are shopping: https://goo.gl/W2vAFE

I use small battery powered LED panels for photos and video where I don't have electricity, you can bring light anywhere you need it without generating too much heat: https://goo.gl/7op9ah
Thank you for watching and for your continued interest in keeping honey bees and providing for their future.
