What a chimney flue fire looks like, from high above

The Chimney Safety Institute of America's dual mission is to educate the public on the importance of an annual inspection of their chimney and related systems (fireplace/wood stove), due to the frequent issue of chimney fires -- which can occur due to creosote in the chimney flue. We demonstrated this to students, using our test chimney at the CSIA Technology Center in Plainfield, Indiana. This is an aerial view. Note that the clay tiles were in perfect shape before cracking due to the stress of thermal shock (that's the sound you'll hear over and over again.) You'll see the fire start and then how it looks from top and bottom. Then the camera images from a post-fire visual inspection.
