To see the best ending you must clear the same set of stages 8 times. 8 TIMES. Who came up with this? The game is fun and very well made for its time, but this is ridiculous. There is also no save feature, which is just marvelous (if I'm not mistaken, GBA port has it). Also, when you clear a province, you have to collect all of the items, money and life max up scrolls all over again. NEVER EVER AGAIN. #FuckYouKonami

I'd say overall MSX2 version is better (graphics are arguably better, every stage is unique, there is a password system), but it has some cut content (palanquin carriers, Rice Field and Big Mansion stages, bonus items), and has its own bullshit moments (slow default movement speed, breakable blocks in basements, some screens are looped, Chief's Letter item, there is a bad ending if you don't clear every province).
