"Bowed Psaltery" is the name commonly applied to instruments using a particularly clever method for making each in an array of many strings individually accessible to a bow. The trick is to have each string extend a bit beyond its neighbor, leaving this one portion of the string exposed for bowing. Arranging the strings and the body of the instrument in a triangle shape makes this possible. The instrument shown here is one take on the idea, which includes a waterphone-style sound body in which moving water on the surface creates shifting resonances in the body to color the sound.
