On 1/15/24 at 3:30 PM, Engine 29 was dispatched to a smoke investigation at a residence on Alki Beach. They arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and flames and called for a "full response". I rushed out of the door just as Engine 32 and Ladder 11 came by my house, but I was too late to catch them. I arrived on scene and all units were there by the time I arrived. The fire was tapped by Engine 29, who was being backed up by Engine 36. There were reports of heavy fire and a partial exposure to a neighboring house, but the homeowner tapped it before it could spread. There were also reports of a person inside the residence on fire, so the Public Information Officer was added. There was nobody found though, and the PIO told me that the fire was started by a heater that caught some clothing on fire. Once the fire was tapped, most units were cleared with the exception of Engines 29, 32, 36, Battalion 7, and Ladders 11 and 13. Most of overhaul then was complete, so Engines 32 and 36 went back into service, as well as Ladder 13. In total, the incident lasted two hours and 13 minutes.
