The one-of-its-kind Award was instituted by Smt. Sunitha Madhavan, the great-granddaughter of Shri V Venkayya. The Award commemorates Rai Bahadur Shri V Venkayya, a pioneering Epigrapher who was the first Indian Chief Epigraphist to the Government of India.

The Award will be presented by the Chief Guest of the occasion, Sri N Gopalaswami, IAS (Retd.), Former Chief Election Commissioner of India.

Dr P V Krishnamurthy (fondly referred to as PVK or Dr PVK) did his Post graduation in Kannada from University of Mysore. Later he took a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, joined Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and retired as Asst Engineer. In the year 2000, he earned his D. Litt (PhD) from Kannada University, Hampi for his study on the inscriptions of Bana Kings.
