This passage by George Eliot resonates perfectly with today. To me, this scene feels both familiar and strange. It reminds me of my childhood memories—the vast rice fields, the scent of grass and rice in bloom, the smell of freshly cut grass, birds chirping on the power lines, the sound of insects in the rice paddies, and the scorching summer sun. But it also feels unfamiliar with the majestic cedar trees towering into the sky, the distinctive summer clouds, and the traditional Japanese houses—all of it feels like a slice from a Ghibli movie. This is probably the most beautiful summer day I've had in recent years.
It’s so magical to be in the middle of nature, to touch it, to feel sheltered in its certainty and safety. Nature has this magical power to heal all wounds, to quiet any self-doubts. There’s only the present, in this very moment, making me want to take a deep breath and immerse myself in it.
