Teen Rhinoplasty: Before & After One Year

It is widely known that being self-conscious about your appearance will often negatively impact your self-esteem and, ultimately, social behavior. When I met Sophie, a college-bound teen, and her parents during her consultation, she shared her concerns about her self-esteem. Most notably, that she felt herself becoming shyer and more reserved due to her insecurity around the appearance of her nose. She was especially dissatisfied with her drooping tip, seeking subtle projection and tip elevation to achieve facial balance.

After many discussions with her family, Sophie decided to undergo a rhinoplasty procedure. While this procedure is highly requested amongst teens like Sophie, it is important to understand that surgical alterations will not change one’s temperament or personality. A teen rhinoplasty is a stepping stone to help a young person become more confident and flourish.

During surgery, I reduced her dorsal hump and strengthened and supported her tip with cartilage grafts for maximal stability. Immediately after the grafts were artistically carved and placed back into the nose, you can see that even with moderate pressure, the tip is firm and secure — which, of course, mirrors our goal for her confidence and self-esteem.
