In this episode of Indie'N Folk Project, Peeyush engages in a conversation with Shubha Mudgal ji, renowned for her songs like 'Ab ke Sawan', 'Mann ke manjire', 'Ali more angana', and 'Pyaar ke geet'. The conversation begins with Peeyush playfully asking Shubha ji why she didn't wear the little black dress she had promised the last time they met. Shubha ji humorously responds by explaining her newfound preference for Khadi fabric, tired of the monotony of colors. Peeyush compliments her choice, and she laughs it off.

Peeyush then inquires about Shubha ji's role as a pioneer in the indie music scene after the 90s. Shubha ji shares her experience of being an outsider during the release of 'Ali more angana'. Jawahar Wattal, associated with Daler Mehndi and Baba Sehgal, had invited Shubha Mudgal to record a few songs but had forgotten to discuss the release. Upon accidentally discovering this, Shubha ji felt bewildered, leading her to take a break from independent music.

Peeyush asks Shubha Mudgal if she enjoys listening to songs composed by Karan Aujla and Honey Singh. To his surprise, she confidently replies, "Yes, why not?" She goes on to explain that she listens to all kinds of songs, regardless of her personal preference.

Peeyush shifts the conversation to Shubha Mudgal's childhood, mentioning her exposure to the works of Mahadevi Verma and Firaq Gorakhpuri. He asks if she was aware of the legendary status of the people around her. Shubha Mudgal replies that their aura spoke for itself, and even as a child, she recognized their exceptional qualities.

Peeyush delves into Shubha Mudgal ji's experiences with Mahadevi Verma ji and her pet, Roli. As they discuss the story in detail, Peeyush inquires if Shubha ji always knew she wanted to be a singer. Shubha ji shares insights into her childhood and upbringing, crediting her parents for grounding her. She expresses gratitude for their unwavering support and their role in igniting her deep love for the arts.

Shubha ji acknowledges the challenges faced by classical musicians due to a lack of mass appreciation and financial insecurity. She explains the lack of business education and financial literacy among musicians, highlighting the difficulty of insuring acoustic Indian music instruments and the absence of adequate data. Despite coming from a privileged background, Shubha ji reveals that she too faced financial hardships. She recounts instances where people invited her for events but were unwilling to pay a fair fee or provide necessary services to the artist.
