GOBELINS Masters Application Reel 2023 [Rejected]

Edit : important to notice : I was already a student in Gobelins the 3 last years, I did the bachelor there !

I made a post about the Gobelins current situation in the ''cominity'' part of my YouTube channel.

This is the portfolio I joined with my application for the master degree enterance exams. I went to the oral, but I was in the end rejected (not on the waiting list). The video is supposed to be 2 min with a graphic portfolio with less then 2sec slides. I was already in the school for the bachelor, that’s why you can see the walk cycles etc…
They told me I did not have enough personnality shown through the demo, and lacked of vis dev/storytelling skills + I would need to work for some time before trying again.

Also they said they couldn't wait to see what I will do in the future cause I was very promising. But the school said the opposite when I asked about my rejection (not on the waiting list)


I had to censor a part cause the short i did my intership on is not realised yet.

Edit : For those who believe it's because I used pre existing models /characters for my animations that I wasn't taken, you have to know that for all the exercises I did during the 3 years I studied in Gobelins it was * compulsory * to use preexisting model sheets, it is part of the exercises they give us. If you look on the internet for Gobelins students exercices and démo reels you will find out we all use preexisting characters. these are not * fanarts * it's like, the closest thing you can find from professional work , cause in the industry no one will ask you for your style. They will ask you to follow the models the chara designer did, and it is very important for an animator to know how to do that. (I already worked on the industry btw and I can speak about that).
for these exercises I did in Gobelins they gave me grades like : 16, 17, 18, 19 out of 20.
Also, all my classmates who were taken for the masters had also a lots of characters not from them in their demo reels. So I don't think this is the reason of my rejection. actually I believe (and my teachers also confirmed) that my rejection was based on personal reasons, because I'm bothering the school (or more like several people in the administration) *politically*. - introduce yourself
- what type of storytelling do you like
- how would you manage problems in a group project
- what is important so a project go well
- would you like to work on other people's projects
- would you like to work with international people
- was your change of class (french to international) intentional
- what would you like to lean during the masters
- is ur jacket a reference to hunter X Hunter (?wtf)
