We cover creating a new Login for your SQL server, granting limiting access, revoking access, deleting the login, and as a BONUS I'll show how to connect to SQL server in PowerBI using your new service account.

❔ What is a service account?
It is a login that is not associated with a specific person. It is a login created for processes or reporting, which is typically restricted to only the objects that the login needs to perform a specific job. In this case, we made a service account for reporting, so it was granted only "Select" access to a specific table.

Service accounts are helpful because if an automated process or report were using the credentials of an individual employee, then if the employee were to leave the company and their access was deactivated, then those processes or reports would fail. Using a service account helps deter service disruptions, and allows more collaboration with other teams in your company while simultaneously promoting security and segregation of duties by granting limited access.
