Sabra Hummus presents two drag queens, among many celebs, to promote their product during the 2020 Super Bowl. Bob Witeck, a longtime marketing strategist who specializes in reaching LGBT+ audiences, called Sabra’s drag ad “revolutionary.” Per Jason Levine, chief marketing officer for Sabra, the inclusion of such a diverse group of personalities in the commercial was to demonstrate the versatility, relevance and relatability of hummus, marketing its broad appeal.
The unexpected mix of stars in the VaynerMedia-produced ad includes former professional wrestler Ric Flair, “Hot Girl Summer” rapper Megan Thee Stallion, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alumni drag queens Miz Cracker and Kim Chi, autotune king T-Pain, actor Jaleel White, influencers Amanda Cerny, Tway Nguyen, Doug the Pug and Zachary King, former professional NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, first-ever Fortnite World Cup Solo Champion Kyle Giersdorf, Scary Spice aka Mel B., Spanglish singer Becky G, TikTok star Charli D’Amelio, Brittany Tomlinson aka Kombucha Girl, and notorious Real Housewives of New Jersey rivals Teresa Giudice and Caroline Manzo, and Chester Cheetah, the mascot of Cheetos (PepsiCo is one of the two White Plains-based hummus producer’s parent companies).
Despite pressure from the so-called One Million Moms group, the NFL and Fox Sports did not pull the Sabra ad featuring the drag queens.
Sabra: "You've seen how these celebs 'mmus. Now, we've got one question for you. America, how do YOU 'mmus!?"

Just six years after the first LGBT representation in the biggest advertising event of the year, this is one of at least 5 commercials featuring LGBT characters. We have come a long way, helped no doubt by the SCOTUS decision to allow same-sex marriage in 2015.
