Nunc Dimittis (Philip Le Bas) - simplified version

The canticle is particularly appropriate at Candlemas celebrations, as well as at services expressing "letting go...", and it is sung regularly at Evensong or Vespers. The words of the "Nunc Dimittis" are those of the prophet Simeon (Luke 2:29-32) on seeing the child Jesus in the Temple at Jerusalem:

Lord, now let your servant depart in peace,
according to your word.
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of every people
A light to reveal you to the nations
and to be the glory of Israel your people.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
