What is STAAD.Pro V8i SS6?
STAAD stands for STructural Analysis and Aesign Drogram (or “Program”).
It’s a software package from Bentley Systems used for structural analysis and design of various types of structures: buildings, towers, bridges, industrial plants, etc.
The version “V8i” is an older edition of STAAD.Pro; “SS6” (SELECTseries 6) refers to a specific service pack/release in that edition.
Despite being older, it’s widely used in many places (especially in training, educational settings and certain projects) — so learning it gives you a foundation in structural modelling and analysis
Basic Workflow / Steps for a Beginner
Here’s a simplified step‑by‑step you can follow when you first open STAAD.Pro V8i SS6:
Start a new project
Open the software → choose “New Model” (or similar).
Decide your units (kN/m, metres, etc) and design code (IS, AISC, etc) if applicable.
Set up geometry
Define the grid or coordinate system.
Insert nodes for key points in your structure (corners, intersection of beams).
Connect nodes with members (beams/columns) to form the frame.
